Driving home, my engine decided to chunk something .

I have a line on a cost effective vortec that already has a carb intake .

1. It doesn't come with exhaust. I've seen where people say headers hit the frame. What headers do I need and do I have to do to make them fit?

2. My alternator and ac compressor are in alternate positions.
2a. Is there simple battery and alternator wiring I can pick up that is a direct fit?
2b. What do you use for the short ac hoses?

3. I know the water pump is different. Is there a fix besides electric fan? What electric fan setup works best?

Is there anything else that I need to know? The flex plate has already been swapped as it was in a C10 previously. I get intake to oil pan, flex plate to accessories .

Bonus. My alternator now is a 2 wire 135 amp, I believe .Can I just put the v-belt pulley on it and use it?

1. Any C10 header should fit fine. I have 3/4 length chevelle headers because long tubes hang to low for my ride height.

2. Use your stock accessory drive if you dont want to change anything around. Your current alternator probably wont fit the vortec bracket assembly.

3. Can be fixed with my suggestion for #2 or buy a fan and fan clutch for a 96+ if you dont want electric. If you want electric a Jeep grand Cherokee (2002ish) fan works well and fits inside the factory shroud.

Well I want to keep the serp belt from the engine I'm getting. Mine has a pre-79 v belt drive.
I'll check out the fan and clutch.

Thank you!

Youre going to have to swap the alternator then. The good news is an AD244 from a 00-05 suburban or tahoe will bolt in and is 140A. You can pick them up at the pick-a-part all day long. This is my vortec accessory drive on my small block with that alternator.

I have never seen bed fender wells as under-hood inner fenders. Had to do a double take...lol...

Don't confuse the LS vortec with a 5.7 Vortec firstly. If you have a 5.7 Vortec the exhaust is the same as your old engine for the most part so it should just bolt right up. Like others have said whatever your bolt pattern was on the old block should carry over to the new motor but the only provision you might need to account for is a low PSi electric fuel pump because the Vortec 5.7 had the boss but not the passage for the fuel pump rod. Also, depending on your AC bracket the Vortex intake may not have mounts for that old (70's) style crossover bracket that bolted to the intake and hung over the drivers side head.

Assuming you're talking about the 5.7 Vortec you should know that the mechanical fuel pump boss on the block isn't drilled to run an actual fuel pump. Even though there's one there. So you may have to switch over to an electric.

Reuse your exhaust, Use the vortec 5.7 accessory brackets, you will need the power steering pump from the donor truck then swap out the adapters on the back and your lines will fit the new pump, i did it on my truck. If you want the Ac to work you might be able to use the lines from the donor truck. The biggest PITA about the Vortec accessory brackets is the DS hangs over the valve cover so you have to take the bracket loose to get the VC off. You have to use the Vortec water pump not only is it reverse rotation to work with the accessory brackets, the vortec black doesnt have the additional coolant passage on the DS of the water pump mount and may cause sealing issues. Also make sure you route a hose from the intake to the steel line on the vortec WP this allows coolant to circulate and without it the engine may overheat. Trans will work just like it did with stock block....
