Alternator Bracket

Can someone give me some insight into what is going on here ... LOL. I know this isn't your typical SBC alternator bracket and as you can its causing me to use a bunch of washers at the top to be able to secure it.

:rofl: well thanks for the most obvious answer. But that still doesn't help with what that bracket is from lol. Also I don't think a standard alternator bracket would work especially if you look at how long it is to bolt to the water pump.

if it's a long water pump then get the right stock bracket if it's a short water pump get the one for short water pump if not live with it the way it is, that's th eonly answers.

stock brackets come out to match the alt. and then go back in to line up with the water pmup without any washers needed, it's just the way they were stamped out and made.

the stock upper goes in front of the alt. and the bolt is like self tapping and goes into the alt. to secure, at least all of ours is.

Well tried aftermarket.. not a chance it was going to work. Will make this work for the time being but will eventually look for a oem setup.

Go to your local Autozone and purchase a 1955 alternator braket. They sell them at the spectra section it's a chrome one its not expensive. It's actually designed for a generator. But anyway just get that and cut it shorter, drill a hole for it to mount and whala you have a alternator bracket. It works perfectly fine I have done it on many small block and big block Chevys. I even did it on a ford 302. Can't see it to well in this picture but it's the best I have for right now

Here's the bracket I was talking about. Just the long peice is all you will need. Just cut it a few inches shorter. I can't remember how much to cut off but if done right you cut it round the end and drill a hole for the bolt to bolt it to the top of the water pump (factory spot). It's a simple yet clean setup. We have done it to show off the aluminum alternators but it does the job.

I've used it on longs. Never had a problem. The motor that's in the picture has a long style aluminum water pump.

that's what I thought. not sure why you'd need those header brackets for long water pump as the heads have the bolt hole for it and just need a spacer. then you could use the long slot universal deal if you wanted.

I don't use anything but that long bar. What I use to hold the bottom pivot bolt is just a standard alt bracket like this

Alright so I think I have discovered something which then leads to MORE questions. Lets not forget how much stuff I've discovered about this truck which makes no sense.

Got the PROPER alternator bracket and had to make the hold to the manifold slightly larger due to casting imperfections with the Performer intake. Got the bracket bolted up and the alternator in place and then... WTF! The alternator does not fit and sits too far back now.... URGH!

So now... The alternator bracket fiasco is solved but perhaps someone can tell me what type of alternator I have in this beast... The view with the vanes the bolt holes measure 8" across from center points.... Ideas? And this alternator is no slouch.. its pretty damn big and heavy!

Based off the specs here.. http://www.acdelcotechconnect.com/html/tas_alt_ad200.jsp .. This is neither a 10, 12, or 15si alternator.
