If the compressor clutch doesn't pull in with the low pressure switch jumped, check the ground wire and bolt:

I see some talk about the old school long Frigidaire compressors, but what about the Harrison V7? The Harrison V5's suck and were only used for a few years but the V7 fixed all the issues.

What line is that - the liquid line from the condenser to the evap inlet?

A better repair would be to crop out the section of tubing in way of the hole and use a compression - or flare - fitting (coupling/union) to reconnect the two parts. Actually that would be an ideal situation to install an in-line filter/drier.

I agree with Jerry. Replace the bad part of tubing with the drier. You AC system will love you for it too.

Any suggestions on good DIY rubber lines?
None have a "T" to split the lines

Nice research and work! Wish mine had factory air so I'd have to do is replace a few parts.

If I add A/C to my 82, it will be a $1300 Vintage Air kit, and an insane amount of labor. There's a YouTube video documenting the job in a square body, and it's a lot more involved than on a 69 I did many years ago. At least I'm semi-retired, so have some time on my hands. :)

Thanks. I bought this truck a few months ago. It had been converted to R134 back in 97. I do have a "pancake" compressor... hopefully the rebuild was good quality and it will last for a while. I am told that they tend to work harder since they are so small. I put good quality synthetic PAG oil in the system so maybe that will help. Drove it to Tallahassee today (about 40 miles from my house) and enjoyed the cool air all the way. Those big compressors are good and also weigh about 40 pounds. So good luck muscling that thing in... you'll definitely get some ice cold air out of it.

Good luck with the motor swap. My little 305 has 113k original miles on it so it is still smooth as silk. Next motor will be bigger and more powerful for sure.
Actually, 305 is big enough to have good power. Try swapping a lower (numerically higher) geared rear end. If you have the standard for the times 2:73 and automatic, or something like that, try 3:08 or 3:36. If you have a stick, you should have at least 3:54. Bet it will take off like a jet.

I am adding Air to my 73 GMC 3/4 ton, but, according to the only pictures I can find in this damn internet, I am supposed to have a Plenum Valve, that I can't find on any heater boxes in junk yards. The orange tracer line that goes to the valve in the right-side air flap has a T and a branch that is supposed to go to that Plenum valve. Where can I find one, and where does it go?
