I bought a 1987 R10 with 350/400. Someone put non TBI heads on it when they rebuilt it. Is this a big problem?

Shouldnt be. Performance depends on which heads were installed. TBI heads have a swirl ramp in the intake port, which promotes low end torque.

I have never really noticed any power differences between the early TBIs and the carbureted small blocks. I did how ever notice big differences in fuel consumption between the two.

TBI heads prone to cracking, probably better off.

How is the intake manifold mounted? Usually non-tbi heads won't allow the tbi intake to mount without some modifications to it. Unless they used a non-tbi intake and used an adapter plate for the tbi setup.

You can use an Edelbrock 2104 0r 3706 aluminum intake. Both are spread bore. I don't see a square bore one.

2104, 87-95 cast iron heads, non egr

3706, 87-95, cast iron heads, with egr

They look just like the performer 2101 for Quadrajets. You could use the adapter if you want to use a square bore carb.

I don't think it would be to difficult to make your own adapter plate to mount a TBI to a square bore manifold like a 2701 for use on 86 and earlier heads. I don't know how well the system would work though ?

Otherwise there is the FAST setup.
