hey Gang,

Took out my rear drive shaft today to do the u joint. When i took the driveshaft out a good bit of fluid came out with it. Not sure if that is normal? For sometime i have had a little bit of drip from that area, i was told the t case seal is probably shot. Its not a big drip but now that i got it apart and seen the fluid come out like it did i am thinking it would be a good idea to fix it.

98 Chevy 1500 automatic

Thanks

Chris

IF I understand what you're saying right, you should get a good bit of fluid out of it. IF you didn't that means your t case is low on fluid.

Alright, so that is normal for it to come out when the you take the drive shaft out. Just wanted to check.

Now don't forget, when you put the dsaft back in, top off your tcase fluid. I'd check to make sure, but I think it just takes Dextron 2 or 3 Auto trans fluid.

No it is tooo full, The fill plug is sits lower on the back of the tcase then the outputshaft, so if fluid runs out of the rear seal with the shaft removed it is over filled, which would be the Front inputshaft seal leaking, your transmission is overfilling the transfercase.

 That could be true. Almost every dshaft I pulled from one of the aluminum Tcases, had about a pint come out, with exception of the ones that were low or out of fluid completely.

Where the hell you been Pops, Seems there was a thread or 2, or some news on the site you needed to know about, I can't recall now. Be sure to look around.

EDIT: I remember one of them, KC7's truck with the Air Box Pics and the GMT400 dash install. He's done some updates.

NO, Pops is saying it means the trans rear seal is bad allowing trans fluid to leak into the Tcase and causing the Tcase to overflow. I've heard of that and know it happens, but I was also about certain, it's normal to lose some Tcase fluid when you pull the dshaft out.
