I wasn't sure at first. It was either that or a previous HM290 variant. But after some digging, I do believe that it is an actual NV3500 and '93 was the first year for it.


I am pretty sure that I have a number of quarts (~4-6) of NOS MOPAR branded NV-3500 transmission fluid over at the shop on the shelf. It's been there unopened for 15 years or more. Let me double check later this evening how many I actually have. But, you are welcome to them if you could use them.

I have had my 05 tblazer for 13 years. 210000 miles. Been a great little ride. I will say when the thermostat went bad I thought what the heck. $10 and 10 minutes easy peasy.... When they said it was like $110 for the part I thought they were on crack. Freaking thing took me like 4 hrs to change. I understand hating them after having to work on them.

You'd probably like my '94 Mutt (black suburban grille and '88 quad headlights and newer style mirrors, all factory blk trim, bumpers, & flares over red), it's not a WT but not a Sport either.
Does the nv3500 use the same carbon fiber syncros that the nv4500 uses ? If so then the mopar fluid is perfect, anything else causes problems except a certain Amsoil.

Yes, we are in contract on a house. Downsides are: not on a rarely traveled road, no creek, no woods and not next door to my dad's place. Up sides are: much much bigger house, more land, more shop space, much more truck/car storage space, less neighbors and it will be ours (we rent now).
Congrats !!
But this means less truck funds 'cause homeownership is like owning an old truck or boat.

When I first read about the new 4.2 six in the local newspaper, I thought it was pretty cool. But then, a few years later after driving many of them and having to work on them, I grew to hate them. I generally thought they were a finicky POS and thought they were poorly packaged too. Iirc, the engine family was named "Atlas".

There was a member here a long time ago @Jims86 that was a fan of them and could talk them up and make me think (temporarily) that they were pretty good. But he ain't been around for a while and my opinion of those engines is still the same.
He also hated when you called an engine a motor. LOL

I may have posted it somewhere, but I'll put it here too. I never have made any kind of work log thread for that truck, since it really hasn't changed much since I bought it.

I haven't bolted it down yet, since I'd really like to beef up the floor were it mounts, and add some tie-downs as well.

In other news, I installed a new clutch master cylinder in the '93. I got an aluminum one. I got it all bled out and went for a drive into town. When I got to town, it was still going into gear OK-ish. I went to the gas station and let it run while I fueled up. Upon leaving, it was tight to get into gear. Got to the red light, it was nearly impossible to get it into first gear. It didn't get better after that.

So the clutch master failure was unrelated to the existing issue. There is a definite disengagement problem when it's warned up. It's weird though, because once it is in gear, the clutch acts completely normal. When stopped, the truck starts to move when raising the pedal and inch or so. When driving, the engine revs as soon as you start to push in the clutch.

I may lengthen the slave cylinder pushrod a bit, just to see if that changes anything. In case the fork is bent or something. Otherwise, I'm sticking with my pilot bushing theory.
