First timer here, so if there's a thread already about this I apologize, Simone just point me in the right direction. I've got a 91 Burb, 350 tbi, 4L80E 6 inch lift with 35's that's been violated several times by folks that didn't know what they were doing. The rearend is a 14 bolt FF that came out of a truck. This thing is a slug, and I'm guessing the rearend is mainly to blame. I expect the ratio to be a 3.73, instead of the 4.10 it should be, so my question is, spend 200 for a complete 4.10 rearend, or a bunch more to re-gear to a 4.56. Truck is daily driven, mild off roading, occasional trailer hauling. At some point there will be a 5,000 lb camper behind it, for short distances. Advice? Completely new to lifted big tires 4x4.

4.56 would probably be ideal with 35s and a .75 OD. I don’t know a whole lot about it, but the guy I was talking to about regearing my 3.73 to 4.56 mentioned something about thick vs standard ring gears. I believe it’s no longer necessary to swap carriers when going from 4.10down to 4.11up.

He said it’d be a couple grand total to regear my 14ff and d60 with all new bearings, etc., so it’s not terrible.

Probably cheaper than trying to find a matching set of heavy duty axles, then having to worry that they aren’t damaged in some way.

FrankenChevy is correct. You can get a thick 4.56 gear for a 3 series carrier. 4.56's would be ideal for your setup but don't forget if it's a 4x4 you need to change the front gears also no matter what you do.

Awesome advice. Thanks a bunch. Any advice for adding limited slip to the rear? And what do you guys suggest for the front diff? Not going with selectable locker...way too high.

After I blew the stock Gov-Lock out of the rearend on my 1995 Suburban I had my guy install an Auburn Limited Slip.

For the last couple of years now it has been flawless and is quite aggressive.
While pulling out of the driveway you can hear the inner tire scrubbing while accelerating.
It has been nothing but a joy to drive now.
