I am killing the ac aspect of the truck and using the empty vents for other accesories, like a tach, storage, cup holder, etc.

Sunday I am hitting Home Depot to find that self adhesive ducting foil HRPC mentioned to seal that lousy defrost duct joint and also some 1/2 " PEC for the door strikers.

Ahhh...I see, wow it must not get that hot over in your neck of the woods in the summer..
I would melt if I had no A/C in my square... we fry in the summers here... shoot it's late October and we're still hovering around 80

There is an OEM pocket that goes in that duct hole for non AC trucks. Just find a non AC truck in the junkyard and rob a pocket. Actually, hit up Oneluckypops, he is adding OEM AC to his non AC truck. Damn, that reminds me, I shoulda worked on that **** today. Dammit !!! I was to busy anyway. I need to get that **** to him.

Does that OEM pocket screw in from behind or is it molded in?

I also thought there was an OEM pocket on the lower left below the headlight switch?

Mine is moulded into the instrument cluster cover itself.

I picked up a roll of foil backed, foam tape, about 2" wide, from Home Depot. Next time I pull the dash apart I am going to seal that joint.

Mine's apart now so I may go get some of that stuff and do that now when I go to put it back together...

We just went through the wiring not long ago in another thread, buddy...

http://www.gmsquarebody.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1924&highlight=tach

Factory or aftermarket?

Either one is going to pretty much be the same. Most aftermarket tachs have 4 wires, white, black, green and red.

Red: 12+
Black: ground
Green: distributor - most caps are marked "TACH" and that's where you plug it in.
White: illumination - to the dash lights.

As Quoted !!!
