Hello this is my first post on GMsquarebody and i just wanted to say thanks to everyone with posts reguarding LS swaps on these trucks, info was VERY helpfull and def could not have done it without yalls advice so thanks.
Anyways, my project started when i was 17 as a 87 Scottsdale 4x4 originally equipped with a very worn out 350 TBI i converted to a one belt setup(some old pics are of original 3 belt setup). Purchased for 800 bucks none running, found owner had somehow installed injectors 180" from correct location(even had a dowell pin:shakehead:) and cracked the injector pod. Swapped tbi assembly with junkyard unit, cap and rotor and had it runnin ! Burned a lot of oil, rings were shot, i could spin it over by hand, and always had terrible spark knock. Desperately needed some attention but i drove it all through high school and 2 years auto tech college.

Decided to greatly update the powertrain right after new years 2014 ,new drivetrain consists of 5.3 LM7 block, 243 heads, comp cam 54-426-11 XR275HR, LS6 valvetrain, a built 4L60e, and was able to retain the original NP208 transfer case and driveshafts:favorites37: i will post more details and pictures as i go ...

OP should have been able to retain the Tcase and shafts since the 4L60e and 700R4 are extremely similar. 4L60e is really an electronically controlled 700R4 with a handful of internal strength upgrades, a stronger case and removable bell housing in 1996+.

@ Stewzer is right on the money, 4L60e same dimensions as 700r4, 27 spline output shaft, i had to get a newer stlye (99-06) 6 bolt adapter to go to NP208, but thats really the only part you would need, shifter linkage (original 87 style) bolts right up retained all of that,

I did have to make a VSS for the 4l60e to shift, saw many people get a 88-91 suburban/k5 np241 pass drop but they are hard to find, so i made my own by welding 40 tooth reluctor wheel onto trans output shaft, (hadda 2wd 4l60e output shaft laying around just pressed that reluctor wheel off and mounted to 4x4 output shaft)then mounted speed sensor in transfer case adapter. i will post pictures to better understand, but yeah a 4l60e is basically a electronic shifted 700r4

Very good workmanship.
Just changing to a TBI on Mine 89 is scarey enough, I could`nt imagine this extensive of a cornversion.

Thank you sir, took a lot of research and time. But definitely worth all the work when you get to drive it down the road the first time !
