87 crew cab L29 vortec swap

hey guys, been doing a lot of reading up on this subject.
However i need some opinions and advice
I recently was able to purchase a 1998 OBS that was straight axle converted and had the l29 454, 4l80e combo.
I figured it would be a great donor truck for my crew.
being the l29 is still all original and has not been modified.

ive seen on another thread about the dangers of using the old harness so i decided to go anew.

now where should i purchase a harness? would it mostly be plug and play.?
howell engine and developement?

should i use the 87s fuse block or the obs?

im not to worried about the electronic guages, i prefer mechanical anyways.

what about the cluster and speedo? can the orginal be used with a particular harness?

any other advice or parts and pieces im missing?
or will this be a fairly easy process.
i know there is other options for engine swaps, however im in this obs stupid cheap therefore i dont mind spending some money to make it work the right way.
also my 87 has a blown up tbi 454 and 2wd 4l80 combo

Welcome David where in Florida are you?? I just put a 95 TBI 454 4l80e combo in my 86 c10 . is the 98 454 a TBI eng if it is it will be just a plug and play swap . if you are staying 2wd if your going to change it to 4wd then if will get more involved in the wiring and front springs/axel .

Well yes the 98 is a TBI however its the Vortec tbi which is drastically different than the 87 TBI system.

yes i love my np205s i found an adapter for the 4l80e
pretty confident i can make a 4wd shifter work
dont mind to much for a manual shifter so wiring wouldnt be a problem

was your 454 a L29 engine?

where did you mount your PCM?

PS yeah good for me the 98 obs had a bolt in kit for the SAS swap im sure i can also fab those brackets to fit my application

No my 454 is a 95 gen 6 . I put the ecu in the dash behind the glove box made my own mounting bracket and put the obd port in the glove box .

Not yet, still collecting parts and repinning the harness for the 0411 swap. Any progress?
