I have a 86 chevy k10 that was starting up a few weeks ago.
I recently did an oil change along with replacing the oil pump and afterwards tried to start up my truck again just to find out its no longer cranking.
the lights on the interior and headlights turn on and i can hear the buzz sound when inserting the key but when i go to turn the key it does not crank or turn over.
i do notice the brake and choke light come on when i turn the key but nothing happens.
The ignition switch was replaced yesterday but still to no crank.

battery and alternator are good.
the starter is about a year old now new out the box.

Any suggestions or ideas on what it could be?

Does the dome light dim at all when you turn the key to start it?

Is the safety switch good?

Maybe try in neutral as well as park?

The dome light does not dim,
From what I can see it's fine.

If auto trans, try starting with the shifter in different positions. If manual, hit the clutch to the floor several times and try starting. If it doesn't start at that point, you'll have to start checking power like mentioned above.

Does your gauges turn on when you turn the key to the start position?

Now I had this happen already. Did you accidentally hit the starter with the pan and unhook the solenoid switch cable that goes to the key? It will be on the starter unless you have an external solenoid.

As they said above. Make sure it's in park or it just won't even try cranking because the safety neutral switch.

Short the solenoid with a quarter or screwdriver. Does it crank if so you've lost signal to the solenoid. Make sure solenoid wire is in place and on the correct terminal, move backwards from there, neutral safety switch, ignition switch. Ignition rack

86- automatic-the neutral safety is mechanical- did away with the switch mid 84. If it is manual- like mentioned above- could be a bad clutch start interlock. Definitely make sure the purple wire on starter is making good contact. Follow Ricko1966 instructions above.
