83 6.2 diesel mpg and practicality

I have an 87 v10 that has a carbed 305 and even without a lift it only gets 10 mpg. I'm thinking of picking up an 83 with a 6.2 non turbo diesel and wondering what kind of economy to expect? I'm sure it will be a dog on power but I need another toy and no more motorcycles soo what do u think.....

those motors in blazers with 3.08 gears get around 20mpg, you should get something around there depending on your gears

You should be able to get more out of your 305, I managed to get 17mpg at one point with my 305 running a carter afb. That was in a K1500 with a 4 speed and 3.08 rear end.

6.2 is a good engine, I was going to swap one in my 85 a few years ago. They do have about the same power as a 305 and people swear you can get mpg in the high teens or even more, I believe that.

I get 16 mpg in my M1028a2 with 4:56 gears. my M1009 blazer gets around 22 last I checked. They run about as good as a stock 350 but get half again better fuel milage and a lot less maintainance
