I'm late to the party on this one but in my truck's case, dieseling was the result of a bad vacuum leak. Perhaps check those vacuum lines if this one is still happening.

Is the esc the same as the Ignition module?
ESC is electronic spark control. It's a system designed to retard timing if the engine detects knocking. Vehicles with ESC use a specific ESC ignition module in the distributor. I think it has 5 terminals instead of 4 like on typical HEI ignition modules.

The system consists of more than the ignition module though. I hope this help.

Bypass the esc, make sure your vac advance only gets vacuum when you gas it, not full time vac. and no one way valve to the vac advance.
