Hello, new guy here, just got myself an 82 c10 with a 305 sbc. Im taking it to the machine shop this weekend to get it cleaned up and bored. While i was tearing it apart it looked like there were more than 2 sensors /sending units connected to it. I know the temp sending unit is on the cylinder head, and the oil pressure unit is on the top near the intake. I saw one that was connected to the actual block. Can i get a list of all the sensors for this year 305. First time builder so i wanna make sure i get everything right. Thank you in advance.

An 82 305 likely will have ESC, Electronic Spark Control. This system employs a seven pin HEI module and knock sensor(s?) that are threaded into the block where the coolant drain plugs normally are.

Is this what the sensor in question looks like?

Yeah that one does look familiar. Im gonna try to take some better pictures this weekend before i take it to the machine shop. I guess another question i should ask is how far can i get by just replacing the 2 sensors stated above for the guages? I want it to be a fairly "simple" rebuild.

You can get it running with just the two sensors. You can leave the ESC in place and it will probably work fine, but swapping to a standard HEI would also be a simple change. You can look for one in the junkyard, or there are many aftermarket large cap HEI’s available.

Also take a look at your Quadrajet to see if it has any electrical connections other than the choke. Some later models have a dual volume accelerator pump with a an electric actuator. Not sure what controls it.
