81 k2500 vbelt to serpentine belt and upgraded alternator wiring troubles

The 3 wires running down the left valve cover are all hot two red and a brown the new alternator I put on has obviously the post and 4 prongs for a plug in ,
I drive it I just have to get a jump every time I get in it

I'm no Sherlock Holmes but I'm speculating there's a question in there somewhere? What alt are you running? I converted to serpentine and a CS130. Although the plug had several wires, I only use two. The brown is the excitor wire, the one that turns things on. It needs to see a voltage drop so it knows to turn the alternator on.
