Hey folks, got some questions and could use help. I have a 79 c3500 and I want the nv4500 swap. Truck came stock with sm465. Where should I look? Junkyards and wreckers seem viable. Do i need to grab any other parts or just the tranny? Will it be a direct bolt up? I know there are so many other threads out there with this info but cant find much on 3500's in particular

I’ve got a NV4500 I’ve been thinking about putting in my 79 2500 and I’ve been reading up on options. I’m still undecided because I like my MS465. I’m thinking about getting a Gear Vendor overdrive instead. They bolt directly to the NP 205 T case, and I’d need to shorten the driveshaft but it gets modified with a nv4500 swap too, I think. Advance Adapters has the bell you’d need for the nv4500-to-350, as well as the nv4500-to-NP205 T case adapter tail which replaces the tail of the nv4500. If you have 4x4 you will need the 4x4 tail. And the GM nv4500 not the dodge. I’m not sure but I think the splines on the Chevy nv4500 will work on both ends. But you need to search that. Google it

3500 is no different than the rest. From experience, I can tell you to just spend the cash up front and buy a complete transmission and kit from AA. Junkyard trannies are hard to find and you will spend a lot of $$ rebuilding them 99% of the time. Then you're still stuck with finding and buying the parts needed to adapt it to your truck. The AA kit is complete, no parts hunting, brand new and comes with a warranty. I'm starting a complete rebuild on my 2nd one this weekend.
