You know, my neighbor has one of those. I'm gonna get it from him. (He already offered it for free, and I declined. Lol). That could be worth some bucks to a restorer down the road. Don't suppose they came on Mustangs? Probably a Gremlin or something like that...
I could do a how to tune video with it.... lol

I don't think any other mfgr. except Ford had them.. The only cars I remember seeing them on were Lincolns and those fat ass 4 passenger T-Birds. Possibly others, I just don't remember. It was really difficult to swap one for a "conventional" carburetor because of all the peripheral stuff compatible only with the variable v.. Plus that was the days of "don't fukk with the emission controls" enforcements.. Feds were monitoring the shops..

Actually, I think it was Ford's attempt at lowering the CAFE numbers of their gas guzzlers.. Those big old 390 equipped yard barges could not stay away from the gas pumps...

Plug the vacuum advance on the distributor, and set the base timing at 10 degrees before top dead center .

Start up the engine with the Holly carb on it, and a VACUUM GAUGE connected to BASE VACUUM .

Get the engine down to idle speed (650 RPMs) out of gear, and write down what the vacuum reading is at that speed .

LOOK down into the carb WHILE RUNNING, and see if there is normal fuel flow, any fuel flow showing, or fuel spilling all over the inside of the carb .

Now (if it's still running), put the trans in gear and get a second vacuum reading . IF it stalls, leave it off and look down into carb, note if it's WET or DRY inside and on the throttle plates .

What are your vacuum readings, and at what RPM ?

Ok so I got to do some more messing around with the truck this weekend and basically at this point don't have the ability to have the truck down any more. Going to run the afb for a while longer until I can have time to get the Holley back on. Thanks for the advise guys
