My '73 truck will no longer pass state safety inspection because the bed is too far gone. I could fix the outside panels, they are cosmetic. The big problem is the bed floor and supports are too far gone. At this point I think the best thing to do is find a good used bed. What is different about the 77 thru 87 beds? Is it just the fuel filler openings changed to doors from holes? Do the tail lights still fit? Do the beds still mount the same way? If I get the newer bed and change the fuel hoses to match will it be easier to fill? Thanks.

The beds are interchangeable from 73-91 CKRV with some alteration or modification. The fuel filler, tailgate latch and front mounting bolts are the most common differences. They can be made to work without issue though.

I guess the fuel filler would just take the correct hoses wouldn't they? Or is there more to it? What is different about the front mounting bolts?

I don't think the tailgate would be an issue as I would have to get one anyway.
