I have seen that GM new fenders sold in 80's for 73-80 models had a GM stamp on rear center edge of the fender. But I have not found specific information if fenders on the trucks originally installed also have the same stamp or other identification. What did the original fenders have on them to identify vs aftermarket?

Never heard of that before, I know current GM stampings all get the logo, but don't know when that became standard practice.

My 79 fenders don't have a GM stamping on them, neither does the 75 fender I just got.

The only real way I've seen is to inspect the inside places for Ecoating. People say the aftermarket stuff is thin, but that's not been my experience.

The passenger side fender on my 76 has a GM stamp on it in the center rear edge facing the front of the door.

Any evidence pointing to which of the fenders was replaced at some point?

Two 79 fenders that are on my truck do not have the stamp either, but they look to be aftermarket

I believe both were either from another truck or replaced. The truck had been painted 4 times but the fenders only had one or two layers of paint and did not have any evidence of a buckskin center color.

So can you elaborate where these pictures are taken? At the door jamb with the door open? Between the hood and fender?

I'm curious because I'm 99% sure I have the original fenders on the truck.

Open the door, its stamped at the rear of the fender facing the door. In the first pic, to the right of gm is the outside of the drivers door. To the left is the outside of the drivers fender. If i can ill snap a shot farther away

That's sort of what I was thinking. Thank you for explaining.

No problem! A bit more clear.... they were taken from the outside (of the truck) with the door about quarter to half way open looking between the door and fender. The GM would be looking you in the eye.

Hmm - wonder if that was not a 1980 thing.
I do not see them, and believe the truck is original...
