Well, I Figured I would make a build thread for the progress i make on my chevelle. In hopes of having it drivable/presentable my sr. year in HS, Im under somewhat of a tight deadline.
Current car specs:
350ci 4bbl.(matching #)
Th350
10bolt w/ 2.56 Posi.
Bench
Malibu tags

Ideas:
either a big sbc or a medium bbc
3.73-4.11
buckets
console w/ shifter
Welds w/ Big rubber

Ill get a pic up soon.
BTW: I thought I would add that its a heat only car, no A/C

Are you going for a 12 bolt rear or sticking with the 10 bolt? IIRC, the 2.56 carrier won't work with any other gear sets.

Yeah, my Impala also has the 8.2 with 2.56 gears and from what I remember the 2.56 ring has it's own carrier and you can't even buy aftermarket gears to fit that carrier. You need a carrier from like 3.08 and up to get the gears you want. I'm just going off my memory here, I decided just to go with a 12 bolt that won't end up broken anyway.

##After checking the Richmond listing in the Jeg's catalog, I was correct.##

I'm planning on something in the 3.31-3.55 range with a 275/60 tire on a 15x8 wheel.

Im planning on running 295/50-15's on the back and 205's on the front(some short, skiney tire).

A calculator said with 4.11's and 27" tires ill run about 3.4k so i would be running about 3.75k

Tight budget usually means a basic iron-headed 350.

what kind of mph are you wanting out of your build? Depending on the block of your build, I'd stick to something like 3.31s or 3.42s or something. Running anything higher on an older (lower redline) engine setup and you'll just haul azz to around 95mph then top out. That's fine for a qtr mile car, but for a cruiser it'll just suck gas running 4.11s. Maybe if you converted to a 4spd it would do. As you said though, you're on a budget so I didn't figure that was an option. My mostly stock Chevelle BB runs 3.31s and it's running pretty high over 110mph. Still pulling, but I wouldn't keep it up there long.
