And 35 year old trucks with a Black Book value of $1500 don't really cause much concern over VIN numbers not matching the frame.
I understand that our laws in Canada don't apply to the OP's question but just a fyi.
In rust belt BC a lot of cabs get switched over. We usually don't hesitate to change the VIN tag up on the dash, and the dash cover hides the rivets
so it's not obvious from looking through the windshield. Finding a rust free(ish) cab around here with the papers is a happy place!

And depending on the mood of the lady working at the insurance store, we generally don't have any issues changing specs on our reggies when we buy or renew our insurance. Like changing colors for example, just tell them... "oh by the way I painted the truck, it's red now".

Ok well it’s good to know that other people have already done some swaps without ending up in hot water with the law. I was also wondering what a fair price for a dent free and mostly rust free cab would be?
