700R4 torque converter cover

1986 GMC 1500 Sierra classic 4x4 SWB w/305” on a 700R4.

I have personally seen two different thicknesses of these torque converter covers.

I hear a rumor that the thicker one is for 4x4s.

Does anyone know if this is correct.

There seems to be plenty of these online for sale, and I would prefer to get the thicker one, but I don’t see any way to differentiate it from the others, online or when I’m trying to order one from somebody.

The thick are 4x4 covers with 6 bolts(7/16 or metric?) holding them to the case. Most 2 by covers are thin metal or some were plastic and only attached with 4 bolts(1/4 inch?). You will have to check your transmission to see which you have.

I finally found the thick aluminum 4x4 cover, but now I need the 8 bolts.

6 for mounting the cover & two for the stabilizer arms. I’m going to assume they are different sizes.

I am having a problem in terminology. I can’t even Google the two stabilizer arms, let alone the two bolts that hold them to the cover.

what are those stabilizer rods even called?

I assume these two rods have to go to the cover, because I don’t see anywhere else they could mount.

I have seen threads where people claimed that this is where you connect the transmission cooling line bracket, but these to stabilize her arms line up perfectly with these two holes on the bottom of the cover.

Somebody please teach me sumthin.

those rods go on the cover like you suspect. one bolt (passenger side in my truck) has a little bracket that holds the cooler lines also

make sure you look at description , i ordered one once and it was a thin piece of sheet metal with stamped out cuts, super cheesy and dangerous for hands....i returned it

I know the bolts for the cover to the trans are M14x1.5 just finally found a cover for mine and picked these bolts up to try and they worked.
