Choose the can you want bud. All you need to do is hook up a toggle switch to lock up the converter when you want. I don't lock mine up till bout 65- 70mph. Keeping it in drive will help. The highest cam power starting point I would go is 1800 tho. You'll have fun.

The bigger of the two cams that were recommended is probably about as much duration as I would have gone anyway. The 112 lobe separation is what sort of surprised me.

That's actually a good lobe Sep... it will allow the cam to make torque and hp across the entire rpm range noted . Please don't cheep out on the lifters and push rods if you plan to rev that high. Might be ok but ya never know.

And you'll want @least 1800 - 2000 stall converter with that cam

Ya, the converter is the next piece to the puzzle. I've never built an auto but I did have a car with a pretty high stall in it. It was kinda fun to drive but not what I want now. 18-2000 is the max. I'd rather go with a 1650. Sure wish I could try each out to see how I like them.

I run a 700r4 with a 2500 stall. Comp cs294 magnum cam. 2500 to 6500 power band. Tire smoking fun. 410 gears. Limited slip diff. Had the trans built 8 years ago, serviced it once, and it's still pulling hard.

A 2500 stall is actually pretty mild feeling and works well in a do-all street car.

Morgan, how does that set up feel when it goes into overdrive? About what MPH does it go into overdrive?

Just normal driving it goes in about 35 mph with the 410 gearing. When it had the original 308 gears it was about 45 mph. The 2500 stalls just enough to let it idle in gear with no problems. If I was running it on the strip, it would need at least a 4500 stall to make a really hard launch. I have street tires so it works pretty good.
