There's no pressure in there, probably was a warped cap some don't know how to take them off right, and they may have not tapped it all the way in too, who knows, lol..

I've never even heard of one of those round governor covers leaking, let alone getting blown out.

Lol... this is true. It's just the guys that do transmissions for a living, allegedly, and they can't verify an exterior cover? I'd be scared of the rest of the build for sure. In this case, the governor has a lot to do with the shift points too.

Maybe they're overloaded with work, and stupid mistakes can happen with anyone, so I'm not condemning them outright. We're only human. But this person has had toooooo many issues with this trans already, so if I were working on his trans, I'd try to go over it a bit more, be more critical, etc. That's all.

Sounds like you need to find a better trans shop. I have a 700r behind a 454 and tow 5k lbs on a regular basis with no issues. They can be great transmissions if built right.

That's the problem. Finding a good trans shop somewhat local to him... cuz local isn't cutting it. Have you read the thread? This is now the 6th time visiting the trans shop in 2 YEARS! Opened up at least 4 or 5 of those times! Holy ish!!

I agree, they can be great trannys........ when done right.

What I really need right now is for someone that is very knowledgeable to drive the truck and get a real diagnosis on what is causing my early shifts and shuddering when going in to 3rd and 4th. Early shifts happen every time going in to 3rd and overdrive. Shuddering starts every shift in to 3rd and overdrive after the truck gets hot. I won't be going back to A&A. I have the truck, it moves under it's own power again, just need to find a good performance oriented transmission shop to drive this thing and tell me what to do.

I will probably end up ordering from Bow Tie Overdrives, just don't have the $2500 right now.

Call every trans shop within an hour drive. How far are you from Ponca?

Not sure if there still in business but I had bobs transmissions build 2 for me when I lived down there. Last one built in 2003 and it just gave up last month.

If it's shuddering only in 3rd and 4th, it may be due to damage and burnt up 3/4 clutch pack. They get so hot the metal steel plates will get cone shaped or warped. So then when trying to apply, they shudder as the cones and being flattened out to compress the clutch pack. Just a guess. Now the other thing common when people refer to shuddering, it's the torque converter clutch locking up. You should have converter lock up in only 3rd and 4th gear. So is this problem, after it's been in 3rd and about time for the converter to lock up? And same with OD. Does this happen after it's been in 4th gear and about time to lock up?

This only happens as it's shifting into 3rd and 4th. It also seems to do it less if I really run up the rpm's in 2nd or 3rd before allowing it to shift.

I was talking with my wife about this last night and both of us believe we have been through 5 rebuilds and this is number 6, all in 2 years. They have not all been the fault of the builder. Two were the fault of other shops.

With all those rebuilds, you could have easily gotten a 80, just my own opinion, and I used to build transmissions for a living.

Your current problem sounds like the 3-4 clutch pack.
