I need help getting the governor cap off of a 700r4 on my 1985 Chevrolet K10. Is there something I'm not doing right? Everything I read says you can tap them off with a flathead screwdriver or chisel and a hammer, but this one's so rusted and I have beat on it and pryed on it with chisels and Flathead screwdrivers with no luck. Is there any advice for this or do I just keep trying. I got a new cap and a new governor but can't get the old one out. The truck is stuck in first gear and the TV cable still has spring tension on it so I don't think it's the cable.

Heat it up with a small torch on low heat. After a few minutes try again with your prying tools.

Since you got a new one I would try to work it loose with a pipe wrench. If that didn't work a sawzall or cutoff wheel and put a slice in it just enough where it'll collapse a little, should pop out then.

Sometimes you have to get rude with those. The steel cover on an aluminum case creates lots of “environmental loctite”. Your probably going to destroy it getting it out.

Once it’s out, clean up the case. More than likely there will be some pitting. Put a thin coat of sealer around the cover. Don’t drive it in from the center of the cover, use a punch and drive it in by tapping on the outer edge of the cover.

The sawzall worked! I had to cut the outside of it about 3/4 the way across and then I was able to collapse it on one side and it popped right out!

There's a great YouTuber channel called Richard and Theresa Educational Transmission Video and Precision Transmission (same people) that shows how he removes them...many videos of this. You also might contact Richard for information. They retired their shop but still do work from their home shop.
