Generally, old 700r4 with original style clutches will work fine with regular fluid. When it is rebuilt with upgraded clutches/steels that it can benefit from synth fluid

Cheap ass Dextron IV/Mercon from Walmart is fine. About $11 a gallon. Change it every 50,000 miles and you'll be good to go. I'd say 75,000 but if you're doing any towing or lots of city driving, heating conditions and it being a 700r4, then just better safe than sorry so do 50,000 miles and you should be able to sleep at night.

If it were a Th350 or Th400, I'd say every 75,000 - 100,000 miles. I've seen them get close to 200,000 and more without ever being changed.

That's why I use Super Tech. Buy it by the gallon and it's cheap. I was $9.XX a gallon a year and a half ago, I just bought a gallon and it's now $12.XX a gallon. Still alot cheaper than $3.89 a quart if you can find it for that.
