6X9 Brackets

I did some searching and came across another s/b forum that had a guy making these to go behind the seat in place of old cab corners. I went ahead and got a set for $65.

Ive got just a set of the 6x9 boxs behind my seat which sucks cause i cant get it all the way back those will be nice as long as they fit good and tight

I got those same brackets from the same guy, I can't wait to get the time to put them in. Looks to be good quality.

How do they sound?

At the moment? Mostly metallic, as I trip across them laying on the floor. Mine probably won't be in the truck for 2 years or so. Some of the other guys that have them might be able to chime in though. I've heard nothing but good. I've seen where some people add dynamat or some other sound deadening to the back to keep any extraneous noise and vibration down, which I'd imagine helps the sound quality.

I dont have those exact brackets but made some of my own. They sound like you would expect open-air 6x9s to sound. A little shrill and it dont get better with more volume or bass. Sure sounds better than the roar of Swampers though. Hey Jake are those TIG welds on those corners?

Nope, I used my MIG with .030 wire. I did it a little more on the hot side and just did quick spot welds to get good penetration without blowing through, and then finished the welds with a flap disc.

I used argon mix. I'm hoping it turns out somewhere close to that good when I do my body work, haha.

ok with the 6x9s in a bracket like that they arent in a sealed enclosure so they may sound funny, you should consider getting a speaker baffle. just in the bracket it will resonate and sound bad (atleast it does to me, being picky how my music sounds)

They mount basically the same way as the stock 4x10 speakers in the steel brackets. 4x10 sound ok (to me anyway), wouldn't the 6x9's sound much better even though it's still not a sealed mount?

Yes any modern 6x9 will sound much better than an old paper cone 4x10, but at the same time I'd prefer it to be sealed. That way you don't hear the sounds from the back of the speaker bouncing around, giving a cleaner sound. Also I don't like the way the bass sounds from a speaker free air, the exception being rear deck speakers which have the bottom of the speaker in the trunk. So my prefered options are a box (which won't fit in the corner) or a baffle. The only downside to a baffle is reduced low bass due to it being essentially a really small enclosure. But this isn't a problem to me cuz I have subs. But to your average listener a 6x9 without an enclosure should be OK, but for 7 bucks a baffle is worth the money to me
