Found a motor laying in our trash pile at work and wondering if the heads should be grabbed or trashed. Heres the engine casting and head casting

If my googling skills haven't failed me, they are trash. According to the masses they are crack prone with 76cc chambers. Some call them the worst of the worst even but I have 0 experience with them and only adding what I googled. I have a set of 993s that I was googling yesterday so I searched your's to see the comparison. I have 76cc chambers too but not much mention of cracking. Evidently those have some kind of heat transfer ports or something that turned out to be not such a good idea.

Snag them if you want some heads to learn how to port with. I wouldn't use them ported (or as is), but being garbage they would make an excellent candidate to learn control of a die grinder with carbide burrs on cast iron. Then if you slip or mess it up then you won't feel bad throwing them out.

Good idea but I find porting such a messy and exhausting job... I wouldn't want to get filthy by practice...

@78C10BigTen has inquired about two different head #'s and I have a set of each sitting around that were in service before pulling them. I was hoping the 882's might get a better response than the 624's. Nope.

Lol i just found them both as a pair sitting in our junk pile. Pretty complete too. If either was any good i was gunna snatch em up

I have a set of 624's made in Mexico on a Goodwrench 350 with almost 100K miles on them, they have performed very well and the only issue I have seen so far is the head gaskets were ready to blow at any time without warning..
The 882's I have on the 383 stroker I built 20 years ago have also done quite well, over 100K VERY HARD miles on them, and all they will need when I freshen up the stroker is a quick valve job.
Maybe I have had better luck with some of the heads more than others have had ??
