Hi folks. I have a brand new Chevy Vortec 5.7 crate engine that I want to install in my 87 R20. Simplest way to go seems be to use the TBI with an adapter on a vortec/carburetor manifold. Manifold prices vary hugely. I'm not sure I trust the $120 no-name ones on ebay. But I thought I would check to see if anyone here has used them.

Try Summit or Jegs. Might still be off shore, doubt either would sell something that might kill you.

Scoggin-dickey made a tbi intake for the vortec heads back in the day. That would be slick. Also it is very easy to make the TBI adapter plate.

I'm running a Jeg's intake on my truck. It's a decent piece. I'm sure the prices have gone up. It would still be cheaper then an Edelbrock.

The best solution is to just use the chevrolet performance intake manifold... but it isn't cheap.

Pay attention to the note on the bottom about needing to route things differently depending on whether the block has the coolant bypass or not. That note applies regardless of the intake you end up using.

Thanks, I looked at those but I didn't really like the single plane and operating range. This truck still works hard and pulls a 14k gooseneck. As for cooling bypass. This engine is fully dressed for a 1998 K3500 that got sidelined. So water pump and all accessories will be installed with it.

Operating range is idle to 5500RPM....

You don't want dual plane for fuel injected. You get horrible cylinder imbalance and they have a hard time running right with dual plane manifolds. You can look at a bunch of dyno testing including specific side by side testing that engine masters did with throttle body style fuel injection showing that you absolutely should not use dual plane for any kind of fuel injection.

There is a rumor that 1996 express vans? Or box trucks? Marine engines We're a bastard child, vortec head, factory tbi injected engine. Look at some gasket set listing's to verify, as in 1996 truck intake sets, look for one for a 1996 TBI truck, that could point in the direction of a straight bolt up including the throttle body and an appropriate computer. Hopefully a factory manifold and tune wouldn't have the cold fuel separation issues after market manifolds have. Okay did a little snooping on the internet seems the unicorn GM TBI vortec is 1996 G30 classic van. I've never seen this intake, just heard tge rumours.

Interesting. My Bad, I was looking at a different number 12486572 that showed power from 2500 and up. Armed with this new info I will do more research. Thanks
