5”/7” Drop 1990 Suburban R1500

Let me start by saying “Save The Squares”.
Ok I have a bit of a dilemma here I purchased a 5”/7” drop kit from Suspension Specialist out of Anaheim Ca. It came with 3” Springs and 2” Spindles along with a flip kit for the rear and the recommended shocks. Now here is where it gets interesting after installing the full kit the diff started hitting the frame so I decided to C-Notch it, it worked for a bit but as time went by (about a year) the back started to sag I’ve changed the shock multiple times (different size and brands) but it’s so low now that the have to be careful with any hump or even a drive way because it scapes the gas tank. Since I’ve C-Notched it bags are out of the question I just need to raise it about 3” for enough ground clearense. Besides reversing the flip kit and installing drop shackles what can I do to lift the back with out eliminating the rear flip? Thanks in advance.

Welcome! I don't understand why bags are out of the question. Having been in the custom truck world for a long time air bags and a c-notch are like peanut butter and chocolate, they go together perfectly. In the short term you could also do air shocks for some relief from bottoming out. You can run the fill Schrader right into the rear bumper and inflate at home or any gas station without needing to add an onboard compressor (Viair is best IMHO) and a tank.

Thanks for your input. I was told that due to it being C-Notched where are the bags gonna go since that part was cut out. I don’t necessarily know how all this goes together but it made sense to me. This is the first time I’ve ever had a square dropped especially this low. I was also told that I could get the leaf spring rearched with a maybe a 3” lift on the back side.

Certainly you could put them in the C-notch area with the proper bracketry to offset from the frame, but if you have a good custom suspension shop nearby they could fabricate any number of mounts to make them work. Give rear airbag setup a google and you will see some examples. I attached an extreme example with a four-link installed as well.
