Guys, I'm wanting to swap my 400t out for a 4l60. I've looked through a bunch of different threads and cannot find what I'm looking for. My truck is currently an automatic on the column and I'd like to keep it that way. Is there in upgrade or swap I can do for the shift indicator that will show the OD?

you can change the shift indicator to a 700r4 indicator
You can also replace the detent/gate that is in the column to a 4 speed one
others on the forum have said they have had success without replacing the detent/gate, but i believe it makes the shifter not reach manual 1 possibly, either that or the indicator cant align properly but is close.
Then the indicator can be skipped but youd have to keep in mind what gear youre in.. and you may just flat out not have access to the manual 1, and the indicator wouldnt be close since the spacing is different between 3 and 4 speed (on the indicator)

You can also swap a column from a truck with a 4 speed, you could even use about any gm column from 1980-1994 ish that has an auto 4 speed indicator/setup for a 4 speed

If you dont have tilt, its a good time to get it. be mindful 1983 columns changed things a lot to have the brights on the stalk, with wipers, with cruise(if optioned)

are you currently in a 1985?

You also need a controller for that transmission. Better swap would be 700 r4 no detents at the column ignore the the shifter markings. You can feel where the gears are. Easy swap probably need to find a junkyard driveshaft

What PCM does the truck have to control the LS? Before doing anything, make sure the PCM won’t control a transmission. If do, definitely use a 4L60e. That will solve the TV cable issue, and allow you to dial in the shift points and converter lockup exactly where you want them

This. You need to know what harness was used in the swap (to know if it's got the provisions for the 4L60 control) and what PCM you have. As for physically getting it in the truck, it's not hard. When I did mine, I reused the stock T350 shift rod and column. The pivot bracket on the frame needs to be moved forward (rear bolt hole on the bracket lines up with the front bolt hole on the frame), you'll obviously need to play with the adjustment on the rod till it's happy and you have all the gears. I was able to have access to all my gears including 1st. I just left out the indicator on the dash but as said, you can just put a 700R4 one in and then adjust it's cable till it jives.
