460 BBC Mechanical Fuel Pump

So my the '74 dually has a weird fuel pump situation; since the frame was converted to a 4wd from 2wd obviously, one of the cons is practically zero clearance at the fuel pump. It's hitting off of the crossmember and isn't good across the board. Now i've heard that they make smaller SBC sized fuel pumps for the big blocks, and i've found a couple on the interwebs, but do they pump enough fuel for the fuel-hungry 460? Most pump 80 gph, and I've noticed the BB tend to be around 110 gph. Do you truly only get the right fuel dosage for the big blocks through the big volumed pumps? The PO had a big block pump fitted in somehow and still an electric inline pump plumbed in (didn't work).

What can you guys tell me?

The PO of my truck ran into this problem when trying to install a new fuel pump. I have the 3 port style, but it shows the height difference. TRW used to be the supplier for Napa, now it is Carter. Their catalog is wrong, but I've heard it's been corrected since I did mine 5 years ago.

The one on the left was my OEM pump, the middle is the correct replacement and the one on the right is a 2WD version they claim fits the 4WD.

These are some part numbers for correct 4WD 3 port pumps.

that's a hell of a thing. so the NAPA B-0216-P would work for 4WD application, being that's what you used? And Airtex 41615 is just another cross?

A little info for you, before the 3 line pumps chevrolet used a 2 line pump with a return style filter gf432 mounted on the water pump. So if a 2 line gets you the clearance you need plumb it like a 1969 corvette, nova, chevelle big block car. Ill look for a pic

That's what I used, but they changed numbers after I received the first one to the Carter version and said it fit. It did not though. I used the 41615 on mine.

I put that very same pump on my dually about 10 years ago, it does just fine. Come to think of it, I think I have the same one on the 454 in my stepside too. It does fine as well.
