Now I have said I decided on using a 350 Classic SBC but I decided for what I want to use the truck for, reliability, fuel efficiency(that ill have left) and with the tires (36x10.5r16, STA Superlug Traxion Tread E)

I'm gonna stroke out one of the two Vortec engines. 5.3 or 4.8(Which ever i find first since they're the same block) with a 4L80e and wanted to know if anyone has stroked these out or if anyone has more information on the topic. Prefered parts/recomended parts would be much appreciated.

All I want to make is 500ftlb of tourqe atleast with that 383 CI number we all love. I'll be using this as an all around truck. Hunting, Highway, Grocery Getter, Hauling, Local Shows ect. I want to just use the truck as a truck. This will not be a garage ornament or a pavement princess.

Any extra tips and tricks are welcome since I'll be basically rebuilding the truck(1979 k10 to k20 conversion) from the ground up. I live in Brandenburg Kentucky so if anyone knows any parts places or people to buy parts from it would be much appreciated

I'll give ya a little piece of advice, if you're looking for that kinda torque number, go ahead and start with a 6.0. Take some of that money you'd put toward the stroker kit and put it up front for buying the 6.0, it'll get you that number much easier/cheaper. The right cam/head/intake combo will get you close if not past that 500lbft. If you find the right deal on a 6.0, you should be able to build that up for the same or less money than a stroker 5.3. Or throw in a little more money for a 408 or 416 stroker kit.

I'm looking at something similar for my daily '05 Z71 in the future. Planning on a 6.0 (LQ4 and LQ9 are the same engine, but the LQ9 has flat top pistons for some more compression. LQ4s are generally cheaper), probably an LQ4. They come with 317 heads, so I plan to use my 706/862s from my 5.3 cuz they have a smaller chamber, so that'll bump the compression up. That, paired with a TBSS intake/larger throttle body and something similar to the Texas Speed Stage 2 low lift or high lift cam should be somewhere in the 450-500lbft ballpark.
