I use Zerex G05 in all my vehicle now and it is the only one that Mercedes endorses as an alternative to their own. I really doubt the G05 had anything to do with my problem. I am replacing my heater core as well as it has a split in one of the outlet tubes.

Could a chemical flush cause corrosion of water pump?

I use Zerex G05 50/50 mix. My truck originally had a 305 with a ton of miles and wiped the cam so I put a new GM 350 crate motor in and swapped the pulleys from the 305.
This damage isnt from abrasion is it? Maybe casting sand was still in the cooling passages of the block/heads?

Not using any of the modern flushes. In the old days there use to be a powdered radiator flush that was an acid, and after running one of those you had to put in a neutralizer. That stuff went away when aluminum radiators came along because it would eat right though them.
