350 turns over slow after getting hot

My truck will start up no problem first thing in the morning, I have a 30 minute drive to work and when I try to start it 10 minutes after I get to work it cranks really slow. After it cools down it starts right back up. Any help appreciated

your starter is taking a crap. time for a new one before you get stranded.

Sounds like weak starter/heat soak on the starter. Or too much timing advance. Does the starter have a factory heat shield around it?

Starter is going bad.

Get a brushless mini starter. They are on Amazon for around $50, Might even find it for $30-ish..

They resist heat soak way better, and no brushes to wear out.

IF you are running long tube headers, your starter NEEDS a heat shield. I had an '85 Silverado with a 355 and I was replacing starters almost weekly. There was an immediate difference after installing the heat shield. Truck had same symptoms: good cranking when cold; hot cranks were slow or non-existent.

Nope, no head sheild. I have one somewhere I picked up from a guy but I'll have to find it. And yes long tube headers

Starter might need to be replaced anyway due to running without a heat shield, but worth trying with a heat shield and see if it still works well enough

i'm with yev; You need a heat shield irregardless. So try one and it may cure the problem completely and you won't need a starter so soon.

i'm using the Taylor wrap, part #2540 with very good results---i had the same symptoms and the wrap corrected all that.

I can say this, even with a heat shield, the starter will get heat soaked. I ran my truck up to 100 mph the other day for about 5 minutes or so. My starter is not the happy sounding starter it used to be. It still cranks over, but has a different sound to it.

Pay a little more and get a mini starter. No problems after that. IMO

Not sure, but i choose the blanket because i thought it would be easier to install. Works well for me.

Eh, I've never run heat shields before with headers. A weak battery can also make a good starter seem like it's failing. And it seems like nobody makes a good battery anymore. So even if the battery is newish, it can still be the problem.
