Wasn't around to answer your question, had to go to work. (Bad days for the FedEx man right now) I removed all that dried white silicone and just installed with quality o-ring lube like you did. You should be fine, mine hasn't leaked a drop since the repair four months ago.

Thanks for the pics, please keep them in your photo account for others to reference. One of my pet peeves is searching a forum and finding the thread I need but all the pics have been deleted.

Just an update. This truck after this oil leak fix, and after two days driving in frigid temps, hasn't leaked ONE DROP since I fixed that diverter gasket, I am truley astounded and it was worth all the work. :patriot:

I would say most likely a valve cover. That'd be easy to spot just by popping the hood! Should be a pretty straight forward fix too. Just may be time consuming.

Another update, still a leak somewhere on the starter side of the motor somewhere up in the back. Either a valve cover or intake gasket, right????

Remember leaks travel, so also check around your distributor (o-ring), or possibly your oil sending unit....With the help from people here on the board, I narrowed mine down to either one of those...........Which if I end up doing new lifters, those will be fixed....:)

As mentioned that's a 700R-4...and the T-case is a NP241. '89 is a very desirable year for the 241 in that it was the only year it was available with a mechanical speedo. '90 and up have the VSS speedo.

Bingo, you win the xmas turkey bud. I love using the digital camera to troubleshoot. Look at the leak. :High 5:

I will fix that when I re-do the intake gaskets.

Drivers side is dry, Pass side is leaking. I checked the valve cover bolts and the are not loose.

This is the time of the year for me to get this work done on the truck, because when the boating season hits, I'll be on the water.:High 5:
