Hey guys, I'm sure you seen my posts on rebuilding this thing but may not recognize all my issues. I've replaced, adjusted almost everything g under the hood but I'm still missing something. ANY RESPECTABLE CHEVY POWER from my 305. It sounds great and drives great on a flat road but any time someone decides to slow down in front of me on an incline I have to wave in the rearview while I let one of the 3 gears catch me up to a decent speed.

Is this just part of having a 305 and 3.08 gears? Do I need to try and find the famed ignitionman weight set for my dizzy?

I'm timed at 12deg and have 18" vacuum. Haven't checked total vacuum or mech afvance yet. Any ideas? Do I actually just need to change heads, weights, gears, engine, etc? What gives?

Replace the rubber fuel line that goes to the carb. I think they can collapse when the engine gets hot Exspecially under a load, if its a old hose.

I replaced that one with a braided line with AN fittings when I rebuilt the carb. I'm running out of excuses why I'm not satisfied, other than lack of knowledge or just being picky/stubborn. I will say the carb is a 650 cfm and may be a little large for the load (305). Working with what I got I suppose.

I guess I'm the kind of person who believes there's efficiency to be gained somewhere with the "larger" components I have and would rather make sure everything is tuned to it's peak before blaming em.

I have a 305 in my 84 k10. I know what you mean. Finally de-smoged, deleted egr. Swaped carb, intake, and air cleaner with edlerbrock. Just finished putting new clutch in yesterday, that was an ass kicker.
Im still undecided weather or not to get a 350 crate motor the 305 only has 123000 miles on it. I just would like the extra hp if i need it.

Not sure what this is and I may need to move it to transmission forum but that hose with the white zip tie on it by my vacuum can goes into my transmission. You can see it's disconnected.... Where the hell is this supposed to go? Seems like it should be important.

Are you sure you’ve traced it back to the trans? It looks like the front diff breather to me...

Ah, that's what I get for drinking under the truck. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure you're right. So it's ok to just lay there like that then?

Also the push and pull I felt was because I had crappy wires that were too thin and not separated well enough from each other or other metal causing spark jump. Another issue was my dizzy wasn't hooked up to an actual manifold source (holy cow was that an upgrade!) And last off, I used some hemostats to back out my secondary throttle blade screw a touch.

Xpost from other thread of mine. Surprise, everything works in sequence and I'm learning!
