The engine in my k20 is not running and isn't worth rebuilding since the block is cracked. Because of this I am looking for an engine that will work with a turbo 350 transmission. If the engine needs an adapter plate to be able to mount to the transmission that is fine. The fuel system on my truck also needs redone, so it doesn't matter if the engine runs on diesel or gasoline. My budget on the engine is $2250. Please tell me your suggestions for an engine and the reasons why.

I found an engine for 600. The engine is a 350 with a 350 transmission with about 100000 miles on both. There are no oil leaks on either of the components. I couldn't find any issues with the engine or transmission when I went to look at it. there is only slight surface rust on some of the metal fittings for the upper radiator hose.

I also got two working gauge clusters for gas powered squares while I was there. I only need one of the gauge clusters, so I will sell the other.

I'm looking at $2,100 (on a LS LM7 truck engine) that includes full master rebuild kit, cam, lifters, rockers, head bolts, engine/head clean up (no honing of cylinders). All is new except the block/complete heads/crank/connecting rods.

[edit] This is only for the long block. Doesnt include harness, sensors, etc.

With that budget you should be able to find a parts vehicle you can drive home strip, and sell and scrap everything you don't need to recover your investment. And if you are going to olds engine you can use an olds th350.
Heck you can probably buy a roadmaster for a grand theres an LT1, injection the whole ball of wax.

Dudes sell LO5s out of GMT800s for CHEEP everyday on the Craigslist to make room for an LS transplant..that budget is high if you ask me. I bet you could score a running 350 for 6-700 bucks.
