2011 Suburban Box mystery

While looking at the empty spare tire carrier, I noticed a box that is tie wrapped in place. I have no idea what it is and why it is in the way of hanging a spare.

It's the evap box for emissions. Do you have a check engine light? Gm put them in the dumbest spots.

GM had tech bulletins on some trucks for the evap valve and box. The replacement parts were slightly different.

On your Suburban one of two things, either that is the wrong part, or the bracket it was supposed to be mounted to, rusted away. Need that to pass emissions.

Also if the charcoal box gets raw fuel in it, the charcoal melts and clogs. When fueling, don't top off. When it clogs it is hard to fill the tank as that complete unit is also the tank vent.

That makes sense. I will look to see where it should have been mounted. I imagine it can’t be too far away, given the length of the lines.

Looks like it is supposed to mount in the right rear frame corner.
