2/4 drop wheel sizing

Hey everybody been a long time since I've posted anything but I have a 86 2wd Silverado lwb and I'm looking into lowering it 2/4 and put a stout 350/700R4 combo eventually. Well I am in search of new rims and tires so that away when I do drop it I won't have to get another set then. I'm wanting to drop the front with spindles and the rear with shackles. (Wanting to retain the same ride quality and load ability the best I can) I'm wanting to stay with 15 inch rims. I love the classic muscle car look as that's what I enjoy building so I'm wanting a set of rally wheels(classic camaro and corvette). I just don't know what size wheels will fit good and look like they should be there. They don't have to be the widest or the biggest but something filling. I've read mixed things and am lookin for a clarification on what I can run without rubbing or scrubbing.

I think a staggered looks best imo.

Front
15x8 with 4in backspace
245/60/15 tire

Rear
15x10 with 5in backspace
295/50/15 tire.

If you want a slightly taller tire go with
255/60/15
275/60/15

I like the look of staggered myself. But me running 50 series tires in the rear look funny if the front are 60? What I'm meaning is the front sit taller than the rear

Negative sir....that doesnt mean that 60 is taller than a 50. Its an aspect ratio. Look up the tire specs on these sizes at any tire website and you will see.

Ahh I see. I see you have a lower truck, looks awesome by the way. But was curious would a 275/60 look good in the rear? Also the tire size says I shouldn't mount it on any wider of a rim than 9.5. So could/would that cause problems mounting it on a 10" wide rim? The tires I'm looking at are BfGoodrich radials, if that matters

Yes I do...thanks, I actually have 2 lowered squares, one has 70s on the front and 50s on the rear.

275/60/15 will look fine on the rear on a 10in rim but the side walls do bulge a little but it doesn't look bad.

Here is a 295/50/15 on a 10in rim on a 3.5in drop in the rear. I don't have a pic of a 275 but it would be slightly taller and slightly narrower tread.

Man your making me second guess my whole set up. Your making me want to mirror yours cause that thing is gorgeous. Reason I'm asking about the 275 is there is a huge price difference between the two. Also I'm thinking a taller tire might fill the wheel well better being as my truck won't sit as low as yours. But I'm sure considering it. Lol. What makes it hard to choose is I want the corvette rallye wheels and they don't make them in 9" it's only 7,8,10. And the 275 tire says 7.50 minimum rim width and 9.50 maximum rim width. I don't want to over stretch a tire and cause a blowout or make tread wear funny

Be carefull with the stock rallys and the use of spindles. The stock rally that the p.o. had on my square rubbed terribly on the lower a arm. I ended up going staggered with 20x8 up front and 20x10 in the back. I do however and a 5-7 drop with spindles, springs, hangers and a c-notch. I wanted to both clear the arms and fill in the fenderwells. On another note, be o n the safe side and make sure the tires are weight rated for a truck...especially the fronts. 50 series look nice, but not all are weight rated for the front.

Thanks man, feel free to mirror it if you want to, it doesn't even look like that anymore. Its lower with different wheels.

If I wanted 275s I wouldn't hesitate to put as set on 10in rims. Ive done it before and seen it done countless times.

Thanks guys for all the help. I'm thinking 275's for the rear. JKnight what size are your front wheels in that picture? They look super narrow for corvette rallye wheels.

They are 15x6 with 205/75/15 tires which is actually a factory size wheel and tire for a base model square back in the day. I would have gotten a narrower tire if I could find one to handle the weight of the truck.

That's the look I love but it will be a daily driver so I can't get it too hot roded out. Plus that's why I got my chevelle but man I'd love to do that. Lol. Looks awesome like that. Thank you J Knight for all your help man. It's greatly appreciated

I'm new to site. I have 84 want to do a 2/4 drop with spindles but I also want to fill the wheel well. What size tire and rims should i use, but i don't want to be scubbing and rubbing when i make turns. Can you help me.
