Hey guys new member here with my 1st square body short bed that I just got a month ago. It's a 82 Silverado.

First order of business is to pull and rebuild the engine. I was hoping to get some advice on the brand and type of intake, cam, carb and long tube headers I should put on it. New distributor also. Just some suggestions of what y'all have used and found worked best.

Been wanting to do this for a long time and finally got to a place that I could do it. I appreciate any advice y'all can give me.

Welcome! Quadrajet, anything besides a factory cast iron intake (i.e. Edelbrock 2101), Comp 12-300-4 is a good mild flat tappet cam... I don't know what your performance goals are, but getting some head work done or getting new ones entirely may work better in conjunction with a cam and lifter swap. Is there something mechanically wrong with the distributor? If not, it's better to fix it if it's a Delco-Remy type, or if you have to replace it, AC Delco remanufactures them. I wouldn't trust any of those Chinesium aftermarket distributors.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been looking at the edelbrock 2101. The carb is junk and thought of buying a new rather than rebuild the old one. I'll check on the cam you recommended. Need to check out distributor also just haven't torn into it yet. Thanks again for the input.

What carb’s it got now? If it’s a Quadrajet, and the body’s not damaged, it can almost certainly be rebuilt better and cheaper than you can get one from a carb store or major parts retailer. I’m talking $200-$250 dollars with mailing it to a carb shop.

Yeah, I was looking at them on Amazon and they were all rebuilt and from $200-300. So it's probably better to rebuild it myself than to pay that much for a rebuilt one anyway. Pull it this weekend and see what I got.
