Hi, I have a 1987 Chevy 350 with a 700R4. I have what I think is a pump noise. You can only hear it in the cab, while in Park, Neutral, and driving. I thought I would drop the pan today and see whats going on. I got the pan bolts out but front edge of the pan hits the trans crossmember and I didnt want to force it off. Is this normal? Does the cross member have to be loosened?

Thanks,
Chris.

Unbolt the transmission mount, raise the transmission an inch or 2. Use an upside down garbage can lid with a hole in the middle on top of your drain pan,to catch the fluid that's going to go everywhere.

Thank you, I will try this tomorrow. I think the transmission mount is good, but I will double check, also, I bought the mityvac and was able to remove the fluid before dropping the pan.
I'm going to change the filter and replace the fluid and hope the noise goes away, but it is doubtful.
