1987 Chevrolet V20 front leaf spring replacement

@AuroraGirl i was looking at schematics similar to that yesterday trying to see what all went into slapping an axle under a c30 lol. I think something like that gives a good idea what all to measure atleast. I’ll measure spring hangers today if I get a chance. It’s supposed to start raining again smh dang rain always slowing me down. Do you think the k10 would have correct measurements or would half ton have a different frame geometry? I know people 3/4 ton axle swap them all the time so the perches should be same area?

1/2 ton and LD 3/4 tons are the same frame for most part, like, Thicknesses possibly vary(id have to check for 87 or 84) but the springs/shocks/sway/axle are going to be what defines the difference on em.

then HD 3/4 ton is C6P frames(I have one of those) but it should be the same shape and the dimensions relative to each component should be the same I think.. but brakes bigger, springs bigger, frame thicker etc

I’ll attempt to get as many measurements as possible today and note them in here and pic of anything suspicious. I’m hoping everything’s fine but also kinda hoping something is obviously wrong. If nothing comes up out on alignment than I’m gonna say safe to assume I have bigger problem on my hands. Would the spring perches be same difference on half ton axles? Could I measure from breaks to spring perches?

This connection point doesn't allow for the axle to be installed in the wrong position. So it has to be adjustable alignment. And or damage to other attachment points. I thought I read somewhere in your thread you had a collision. I know you are trying to keep total cost down but I would install all your new parts and make an appointment with a shop that can align it and if needed straighten your frame.

I didn’t wreck the teuck but yes it was previously totaled. I have everythint put together right now just waiting on grease still… then I’ll go get it aligned and I’ll have them check it out. I just don’t want someone to tell me the truck is unsafe or un roadworthy or something. It’s been driven for over 15 years as is with no problems, it’s just not right so it bothers me

I did notice that pic that @hoagster just quoted. Can’t say how that could affect offset side to side but never seen new springs look tweaked like that and not in line.
Is it possible each side has a different hub causing the offset?
Again, just brainstorming.

When you get new leaf springs, the lower leaves can be rotated relative to the main leaf. You can whack them with a rubber mallet to straighten them out.

Shouldn’t change location of the front axle by much. The relationship of the centering pin to the spring eye isn’t changed. It does look funny though. I lay them flat on a rubber stall mat and give them a few whacks with a rubber mallet.

@iamtherealJayy , maybe measuring to backing plate is not the best way until your alignment is sorted. Try measuring to your upper ball joint instead.

Here's another spot to check. Are the bushings at the front of the springs equal size or off set at all (Yellow arrows)? I would also take some cross measurements from here and confirm the frame is square.

From center of ball joint castle nut to ubolt plate bump stop is 12” passenger and 11 drivers side. I made a new thread for just this problem if you want to follow there.

I have decided to dedicate this issue to its own thread, since it has really started bothering me more and more not being able to figure it out. I have a 1987 Chevrolet V20 and the front axle is sitting offset to the passenger side, no big deal except that the passenger side of my trucks stays...
