Nevermind it doesn’t work either smh I’m going to replace the 9v battery connector since I have some laying around and try again later.

I never personally checked it but I watched him do it since he was explaining how to do it. So yes I took his word for it. I can check it today tho when it warms up some outside. Should I get it closer to 0°? Or is it fine at 8? Someone’s saying 0 youre saying 8 is fine. When I’d looked it up I believe it said 4-12 is factory but factory was 30 years ago

factory is 0 for your engine. some folks run a little advanced because they think it helps with power. too much advance will have the knock sensor retarding timing. 8 seems a little advanced to me. I'd probably run no more than 4 btdc if I was going to run advanced. I try to keep mine oscillating at the low point of 0 and high point around 1 or 2 when I have set it. once it is set right, you should be good for a long while...

The TBI in my 88 Blazer is set at 10° I assure you but all that matters here is that you take his word for it and we assume it is still set were he left it. 8° dont make em run hot.

I’ll do it once I can find that plug you said to unplug… I still have no found it nor a tan wire. What is the wire coming from? These are photos of all the plug near and around the firewall/distributor area.

Just found two plugs on base of distributor. One is two wires pink and white? And goes up to ignition module I believe. And the other appears to be 4 wires

Quit confusing him. The issue isn't that it was at 8BTDC when the guy checked it. The issue is that the guy checked it(and maybe moved it) without the ESC being disabled. There is no telling where the MECHANICAL advance is set at. The Mechanical advance should be set at 0, the ECM will then adjust the timing to where it needs to be.

You cant get the thing running right as it is, so don't try getting fancy and making "performance" changes outside the scope of the published procedure.

My guess is that the IAC valve is totally ***** and that is your problem. I would still check the timing though, because that will definitely cause some drivability issues and you have no idea what anyone might have done to the truck previously. Your pic of the connector looks like it hasn't been touched in a VERY long time.

I’m going to order a new iac valve from parts geek, Delphi brand. I doubt a lot of it has been touch although there are many connectors with nothing plugged in. Are those just plugs from the harness that would be used if I had more options? Truck is as basic as it gets. Custom deluxe.
