1984 K10 305 Headers

I'm sure this has been talked to death here, but here it goes. What is the best painted header to run on a 1984 K10 Scottsdale , automatic on column? what header will fit, where I don't have to take a hammer to it? and it will miss the starter, frame, and spark plugs! Only going with painted, to save money. a few pictures included

I would go with stainless steel shorty headers. Whatever you do, stay away from JBA headers. I put a pair on my 97 Z71 and I never noticed how close they were to the spark plugs. They fit perfectly, but unless you are willing and loosen them to change the plugs they were fine.

Really though, all the common long tube headers fit pretty well. They all have their minor fitment difficulties and they all have their merits. Without getting into all the details that are covered in other threads, I highly recommend the Flowtech headers for what you want to do. They are sized good enough for a mild small block, plug access is about as good as you can get, they fit the chassis well without hanging too low and they are bargain priced too. IIRC, the part number you would need is 11500... but again that's just my memory.

I've never run shorty headers on trucks, just long tubes. If I had the choice of shorties or manifolds, I'd just stick with manifolds as long as they aren't the log type.

I bought Jeg's brand # 30055.
Don't run the shipping paint, at least buy a can of VHT.

It's worth it.

Just looked at the picture of my old ones. Same bends, same flanges, same collectors... They are twins.

Couldn't tell ya. Maybe for manufacturing purposes. Maybe they are mount locations for dipstick tubes. Really not sure.
