1980 C10 Cruise Control Switch 407437

Hello all, I have found this site very informative and through the discussions I have been able to resurect my 1980 C10 thats been in my family since new. I am trying to get the cruise control back online and i have the black cruise control vacuum release switch GM #407437. Does anyone have one of these needles in a haystack? Its definately bad and needs to be replaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I saw the NOS one, I’ve searched for several hours today. The price is so high but he knows what he’s got and I don’t blame him. If you think you may have a good used one and get under your dash I would be interested in buying it.

I bit the bullet and bought the NOS switch. Aside from crawling through a junkyard to search for a vehicle with one in it, it is a good option. Thanks for the reply.

Tell you what, when you pull it out let me know, I’ll take it also, they go bad and are rare.

To anyone interested, I have found a way to repair the 407437 Vacuum Release floor switch. You can roll the plastic bead back around the metal end catch, I used needle nose pliers to squeeze it flat and with a very narrow blade, the metal disc will pop out. There is a recessed groove that the disc pops in to and the bead holds it in place. The o-ring on the shaft is a standard size 004 buna-n oring. Lube the new one, stretch it over the end put it all back together and gently heat something to roll the plastic back over or epoxy it. I've now repaired two of them, the original and a NOS unit, and they work perfectly.

Make sure you are lubing with a silicone grease. Anything petroleum based will likely degrade the oring over time and cause it to harden and crack eventually.

I've pretty much given up on trying to find the servo and bracket for the cruise control on my 1980 K10. It came with factory cruise, but it's missing the servo, bracket and vacuum lines. Could you share your modern electronic cruise control information?

Most common brand is probably Rostra, but Iditit and Dakota Digital also have them. Problem is that they are about $400 and up.

GM cruise control was nearly identical across multiple model lines, so start looking at both GM car and trucks for the parts you need. Lots more cruise control systems found on cars than on trucks. Bracket mounting for servo and brake pedal might be slightly different, but should be adaptable to your truck.
