1976 Chevy (Wayne) Busette
Hi there!

My partner and I just bought our first skoolie and are starting our repairs on it. We bought a 1976 Wayne Busette. It is built on a Chevrolet Chevy Van 30 Chassis So I'm pretty sure most if not all parts are for a chevy van of that year. I discovered that the turn signal components inside of the steering wheel were completely shattered when I took it off. The seller bought a whole new assembly for it that came with the van but upon trying to install it I noticed that the wire harness connecters were not the same as the one he provided. The connecter on the one he bought comes in a straight line where you plug it in, which I've found is the case for most of them from that era. Mine, however, Is in the shape of a half moon and the pins on it seem much different. I tried looking online and even went into a couple auto parts stores and no one could help me find what I'm looking for.

There are some markings on the harness that say 'Delco Remy D-8-67'. When I looked them up, google shows me all straight line harnesses and no half moon ones. I found ONE company 'Summit Racing' that has something that looks identical

although that one in the link has that extra wire with the green connecter on the end that mine didn't have and is also for a tilt wheel (mine is non tilting) it also says it is for 1967-1972 chevy trucks and mine is 1976. I will attach the link in the comments.
Summit Racing Switch
I've attached pictures of the signal and harness that it came with including the 'half moon' shape of the connecter

All of this to say, Will this signal from summit racing work with my new skoolie? If not, do you all have any suggestions? thank you!

I believe the extra green wire is for a light bulb (for the shift PRND21 indicator) Is yours an automatic or manual transmission?

The G and P series vans used a lot of older parts, or parts that are visually similar to the older trucks.

Here is one that has the half moon connector but no extra wire

Also if you look up a 1967-72 truck you can find some that come with an adapter pigtail to go from the flat to half moon plug.

Thanks for the reply!

our is an automatic transmission.

will older parts for lets say 67-72 still work on this 76 g30? also is it important if it is a tilt wheel or not? I will check out the SUM-RP20055 right now and get back to you

Since they denote a tilt and non tilt option I’d assume there is a difference. Seems to be the lighted vs non lighted. I believe the non tilt columns use a fiber optic cable to light the indicator instead of a bulb in the column itself.

The best reason I can say on why they used the older parts is that van body ran from 1971-1977 so when it was introduced parts were similar/shared with the 71-72 pickups.

Is your key on the dash? That is how the 67-72 trucks are, then 73+ they are on the column with a steering lock. Also the shift indicator on 67-72 trucks are on the column and 73+ are in the dash.

Generally (not always) GM used a lot of parts that were shared between years, models, and brands. Sometimes it takes a little figuring and fudging to figure out what is compatible with what.

yes our ignition is on the dash and shift indicator is on the column as well. so really im just looking for 67 to 72 parts for this area of my vehicle? if thats the case then the part you linked should work in theory.

ok SO...

I ordered (what I believe) the correct turn signal switch and started the install. I put each wire into the correct terminal on the new half-moon connecter. ran into a few problems.

-the new wires that came on the new harness seem to be getting so in the way when trying to put back together the steering wheel. theyre getting stuck and pinched in the back of the turn signal housing when trying to put the housing back onto shift lever housing.I have tried so many different ways to get those wires to work and not get pinched but not having any luck.

-when plugged in to the original harness that connects to the car, the horn and hazard lights work but not the turn signals when I push them up or down.
it seems that the previous owner cut and re-routed the white wire straight into the fuse box. I have attached a picture of what it looks like.

Could that white wire be the reason that only my actual turn signals arent working? is it in the correct part of the fuse box?

Can I just cut that out of the fuse box and solder and reconnect the white wires?

Obviously I'm all new to this but this is perplexing me.

Maybe I just have the wrong turn signal switch?

first pic is of the harness that connects to the van itself and what the white wire looks like that was rerouted

second, is the picture of where that new white wire was put into fuse box
