Is this right? Am I missing a spindle flat washer, 2nd spindle nut; lock washer? Would seem dangerous!
Going through y'alls threads on assembly.
Pics show how it was, one spindle nut, key, and clip...feedback?!

I don't know that I would say dangerous, as the key was acting as the lock washer and lock nut. May have been a bush fix. Nothing is more permanent than a temporary fix that works. Definitely get the replacement parts and put it back together right, but keep the key in the glove box!

The older 14FF have 2 spanner nuts and a keyed washer kinda like solid front axles but the tabs fold into the recess. The newer 14FF have a thicker spindle nut with that Square key. IDK when the change was made tho, in the 80's I'm reckoning. Dad's 79 has the two spanner setup.

Is this right?
Yes!! This is the newer style spindle nut. Not sure which year they started this on the 14-bolt...I think 85-ish?

Anyway, all you need to do is...install the nut to the proper torque, line up the groove on the spindle to one of the notches on the nut, install the square key, then install the snap ring with the little hook placed in front on the square key....and your good to go! That nut will never back off.

I actually prefer this style compared the old style...it's SO much better than using double spindle nuts, and using the old lock ring with the tabs you hafta bend over.
