12v Swap Fuel Sending Units

Currently in the process of swapping 12v into 87 cab and chassis 1 ton with saddle tanks. Was originally 350 TBI, I had both tanks had worked fine before. For the swap should I use gas sending units that don't need a pump? Or sending units from 6.2?

The gas only has two wires, one for ground and for gauge reading. But the 6.2 has an extra wire that I'm not sure is for. Thanks

Just went through this putting new units in an 86 with a 12v. The extra wire on the diesel one is for water in fuel sensor (that's the information I found anyhow). I thought about swapping them an wiring them up but I couldn't find the sensor anywhere so I went back with gas ones as they were cheaper.

Hope your tanks aren't full like these were.... :doh2:

Thanks for that. So u went with sender's with no intank pumps?

Ya since this one is an 86 I just put those same year ones back. I used the 3 outlet ones, there's a feed, return an a vent. Spectra premium FG05F and FG05G. The switching valves were the same part number between gas/diesel so I figured there shouldn't be an issue with anything the sender is made out of. If anything gas is more corrosive than diesel.

Yeah right on, should only have to switch my senders from the tbi ones to carb
