Looking to swap my 85 mph speedo to a oem 100mph unit....anyone know if its plug and play, or do i have to recalibrate for the different gauge? I hate being able to bury the speedo on the highway at 85. My trans is a 700r4 if that makes any difference on the gear drive change.

Just be aware that - if you do find one - it must come out of a 87 (and down) cluster. 88 - 91 is different. I am not sure of the earliest year that will fit right in - maybe 1977.

Now you've got me interested. Here's one. Unfortunately it is being sold as part of a complete cluster - for $129. Also, it comes with an ammeter rather than a voltmeter. Personally, I like that. I would rather see the rate of charge as opposed to system voltage. But - if you used the entire cluster - it would require some wiring changes. And the lens is trashed.

Thanks for the insight. I am going to check with my local c10 source to see if he has any of the 100mph speedos avail in his inventory. The last time I saw his advertisement he had a couple of dozen complete clusters from 77-87. I realized that anything beyond 88 would be different. Since I don't need the entire cluster and just want the speedo, it may be hard to seperate. I am more concerned with how "plug and play" the swap would be. Time to make a phone call.

Plug it in and go. 85MPH came out in late 78, some trucks got it in 1979 and then 1980 almost all trucks got it. Never really understood the rhyme or reason as to why some 1978-1979s got the 85 speedo early.

...probably due to government involvement and source suppliers of the speedo. The "Mexico" Chevys and Fords are quite different than the U.S. models. I think that the powers that be installed 85 mph speedos to make the end users slow down.:whymewhyme:

Mine was plug and play. I seem to remember some issues with the transmission speedometer Gear Drive though.
